A past life in costume
For almost two decades I was a costume designer for events, stage, TV and film. What I loved was the range of stories I got to tell, and how differently costumes could serve them. Sometimes the job is hyper-realistic, grounded looks the audience never registers as costumes. Sometimes it's a bold emotional statement that plays unabashedly on our need for beauty, mystery, or even shock.
I worked on small downtown shows where I was the only resource, and I had the privilege of working on well-funded, tightly run machines like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Whatever the project, the goal was the same: a collaborative effort in service of a story bigger than any crew member or star, one that would resonate with an audience and show them a truth they hadn't seen before.
